Fundraising has been a crucial part of sustaining Waggy Tails. It is surprising the costs actually incurred in the hour and a half that the club runs each week! Waggy Tails is not a club that makes a profit; in fact, more often than not, it runs at a loss. It is very important to Waggy Tails to keep the charge that the parents have to pay to a minimum. Also, as the club is based on young people with special needs/disabilities working with dogs, it is vital that safety be a major priority. Therefore, the places in the classes are limited, which in turn restricts the income that Waggy Tails can bring in. For parents who have two children with special needs at Waggy Tails, we try to secure a sponsor to subsidise one of their children. We believe Waggy Tails, through the use of the dogs, has created an environment where the young people feel at ease and at home. They are more open and appear to want to communicate, this is often about the dogs. We feel that it would be a fantastic opportunity to build on the trust we have established with our young people by inviting a professional/qualified person who could offer their expertise and guidance. It is a sad but true fact that many young people with Autistic Spectrum Disorders suffer from some form of depression. They are often bullied and can find it difficult to make friends. We would like to be able to help our youngsters by offering professional guidance before they become overwhelmed by the pressures they have to face in every day life. If you want to donate to waggy tails, we would be absolutely DELIGHTED to hear from you! Please contact Carol Petley at 07939573211 or Sarah Prior on 07901625190. |
